Sandhill Silhouettes
With some early morning fog and backlighting, these Sandhill Cranes were made for silhouettes. Since I’m a major fan of wildlife silhouettes, didn’t take much arm twisting to get me to take advantage of the opportunity. Used negative exposure compensation to darken the scene and enhance the shot. Taken handheld out the car window.
Taken with Canon 7D and Canon 500mm F4 IS II lens and 1.4x III teleconverter
1/1250 sec @ F11, ISO 400, evaluative metering, -1 exposure compensation

I like silhouettes too so these are easy to enjoy. That background is wonderful. The sandhills around here seem to be cautious of people than ever or perhaps my memory is bad.

Thanks Lyle. It was a great morning to be out shooting in the fog/sun. Sandhills are very siddish but these three got a little too close as I almost hit them with my car.

Thanks Doug. It was good to get out of dodge and shoot something different. I need to start making more trips out of Texas.

Thanks David. It was a nice change of pace with lots of Sandhills compared to our usual trip home in June/July.
