Skimmer Close-up’s
Here are a few close-up Skimmer shots. Close cropped these photos as the backgrounds were filled with distracting elements.
Taken with Canon 7D and Canon 500mm F4 IS II mounted on Skimmer ground pod with Wimberley II gimbal head.
1/640 sec @ F7.1, ISO 400, evaluative metering, -1/3 exposure compensation, 500mm
1/400 sec @ F7.1, ISO 400, evaluative metering, 500mm

Stunning shots. Having to crop them turned out to accentuate the sense of focus in the Skimmers.

Goes to show how sharp that 500mm is and at ISO 400 you had minimal noise cleanup with the 7D. Did you still have to use Noise Ninja or other to clean up a tad?

And here I thot you had shown us your best skimmers before. The closeup really adds to the drama.

Nice close ups for a different look. Cool perspective on the last one. Good job.

The 500 is a keeper for sure. I use Noise Ninja most of the time above ISO 250 with my 7D.

Thanks Lyle. I haven’t got to my favorites yet, so more to come.

Thanks David. It worked pretty well to close crop on these. Didn’t have much choice on some of them with the other birds close in the background.
