Crested Caracara
During my trip to Laguna Seca ranch, the raptors were scarce at the raptor blinds. However, we did see this Caracara near a pond where he would come for a drink at the end of the day. Captured him taking a drink, flying to a nearby perch and then using it for a good rub down.
Taken with Canon 1DX and Canon 500mm F4 IS II mounted on tripod with Wimberley II gimbal head

Those are beautiful sharp flight shots. I’ve been trying to get a good shot of that bird for years. Nice work.

Nice action from the Caracara. Hard to catch them around here. One day I’ll take the trip.

Thanks Stephen. They are very cool looking raptors. I’ve seen some around the Houston area over the years but it’s always fun to get an opportunity to see them.

Thanks David. I’m looking forward to going back again next spring. It’s a very worthwhile trip.
