American Oystercatcher
Found this Oystercatcher at the Texas City dike a few weeks ago. He was strutting his stuff while walking towards me. Took the shot while handholding my new 500mm lens out the car window on my first weekend outing with it. Made a good first impression…the bird and the lens.
Taken with Canon 7D and Canon 500mm F4 IS II lens
1/1250 sec @ F5.6, ISO 250, evaluative metering, +1/3 exposure compensation
Super sharp, creamy BG and perfect placement in the frame. The 500mm certainly performs as well as you do. Nice job.

Thanks Doug. The new lens is a joy to use. I should have bought on of these puppies a long time ago.

Great image Tim!! Are you able to shoot much at f4 with this lens?

Thanks Sheldon. Shooting at F4 depends on the distance away and the size of the subject. It’s a very narrow depth of field at short ranges. I’m shooting at higher F stops than typical from the 100-400.
