This Yellow Crowned Night Heron had just caught a crawfish and was heading to the shore for breakfast. This shot was taken at Brazos Bend State Park in Texas. I was sitting on the bank near the water with my 40D on a tripod taking photos of other birds when this YCNH flew right beside me and dove into the water to catch this crawfish. I had only enough time to turn the camera and start shooting. Got very lucky that most of my shots were in focus but some had cropped wings since he was so close. I like how the bird’s head is sharp and the wings show some motion blur.
Canon 40D with 100-400 lens on tripod down low.
